If you are a Joomla lovers, you may have noticed the availability of Joomla! CMS 3.5 Beta 2 on January, 2016. The beta version already has all the planned new features for Joomla! 3.5. In case you want to explore the new features of the upcoming Joomla 3.5, you can get the beta 2 version Here.
We also downloaded the Joomla 3.5 beta and tested new features. Let's have a look to see new changes that you'll find in Joomla 3.5:
TinyMCE drag and drop images
Drag-and-drop image is a standard feature in blogging platforms these days. Now this convenient feature has been added in Joomla 3.5, so you can easily pick up any image from your desktop and drop it directly into your content in the TinyMCE editor. The uploaded images will be stored in the root folder.
Item Counter
In this release, you can see the number of published, unpublished and trashed articles in the Category Manager for the articles, banners, contacts and news feeds.
System Plugin – Joomla! Update Notification
Joomla! issues bug fix and security updates every few weeks, but how many of Joomla users are unaware of these updates. To fix this problem, the Joomla 3.5 core has a plugin which periodically checks for updated Joomla! versions and, when one is found, emails the Super Users of the site to remind them. You can enter a list of multiple email addresses to receive the update notification emails. If you don't do anything here, all Super Users will receive the update email.
User Status Module
When you go to the Joomla admin area, you can see the bar at the bottom including links to the frontend and backend of the site for easy Joomla management. You can manage the links appeared with the User Status module. Edit the module and you'll now be able to toggle the User Status features on and off. There's also a new link to open another admin screen in a new window.
Easier CSS Overriding for Protostar
The new feature in Joomla 3.5 makes it easier to modify Protostar. Currently it's impossible to use a custom.css file and you need to hack the core or copy the template.
Now you'll be able to create a file called user.css inside Protostar. Joomla will now automatically check to see if that file exists. This is a safe way to make changes to Protostar with no core hacks.
The original plan was to call the file custom.css, but that wouldn't work because TinyMCE would load the file and apply the CSS styles to your text editor window.
Collecting Anonymous Site Data
Once again, this new feature is provided by a plugin which gathers basic anonymized data of Joomla users that helps the core Joomla team understand users better. The plugin will collect anonymously the PHP, Database Type and Version and Joomla Version a user is running so that the project can set PHP and MySQL versions more accurately for future Joomla Versions. Each site will have a "Unique ID" used to prevent duplicate entries. The Joomla team are working hard to make sure that individual websites cannot be identified from the data. This plugin will be enabled by default, but can be disabled at any point in time.
Downloading System/environment Information
In case you want to collect information from people's sites that were having problems, you go to System > System Information, you can now download the site's system and environment information.
