Joomla 3.7: How to Add Extra Fields to an Article

Step #1: Create a the Field Groups

1. Log in on the back end.
2. Navigate to Content -> Articles.
3. Click Field Groups.
4. Click on the New button on the top.

Set the value for the Field Group

1. Define a title and description.
2. Save and close

Step #2: Create a the Fields

1. Click on the left sidebar on Fields.
2. Click on the New button on the top.



3. Enter the required details:
   • Title *
   • Label *
   • Field Groups. Choose the one you just created in the previous step.
   • Type*. Choose from the available field types:
     • Calender
     • color
     • gallery
     • Captcha
     • Email
     • Checkboxes
     • Color
     • Editor
     • Email
     • Image
     • Integer
     • List
     • Media
     • Article
     • Radio buttons
     • SQL
     • Telephone
     • Text
     • Text area
     • Time zone
     • URL
     • User
     • Usergroup
     • Yes or No
4. Required. Set as "yes" if this field is mandatory.
5. Category: select the category.
6. Set a Default value if needed
7. Save and close when you’re done.

Step #3: Create a the article

1. Log in on the back end.
2. Navigate to Content -> Articles.
3. Click on the New button on the top.
4. Define a title.
5. Open the More information tab.
6. Add some text on the custom field.
7. Click the Save & Close button on the top.

Step #4: View it on the front

1. Create an article menu item in the menu manager and select the new article.





2. Go to the front site of your Joomla installation.
3. Open the article.
4. Check if the custom field is displayed.
