What New Features are in Joomla 5?
- Administrator Dark Mode: Joomla 5 features a more polished dark mode, for both users and administrators.
- Web Assets and Caching: Significant advancements have been made in web asset caching.
- Schema.org Integration: Activating Schema.org data for organization and site names automatically improves search engine optimization.
- Code Optimisation: Speed advancements are noticed due to automatic source code optimisation via the phpcs fixe
- Updates to PHP and Bootstrap: Improved compatibility with PHP 8+ and an upgrade to Bootstrap 5.3.2 ensure that the platform remains current.
- User Interface: Improvements to the Atum administrator template's dark mode and the new Joomla modal window for select buttons offer a more fluid user experience.
- Tools & Plugins: The TinyMCE editor is updated to version 6.7, which includes picture alignment features. Several scheduled jobs have been relocated to scheduler plugins, which has improved system efficiency.
- Media Management: The inclusion of AVIF support in the media manager, as well as the ability to remove older information from smart search indexing, enhances media handling capabilities.
- Adjust menu order in the sidebar: Allows you to arrange the menu as you want.
- Enhanced security: Events have been shifted to their classes, and no longer working Recaptcha plugins have been removed.
- Technologies: Internal code refactoring prioritizes the usage of more current APIs. Web Asset Manager now supports JS Import maps, and deprecated patches for PHP 8.2 have been implemented.
- Extensions and compatibility: Fontawesome 6.4, Codemirror 6, and an improved Webauthn Library are all new in Joomla 5. Notably, for maximum performance, Joomla now requires PHP 8.1, MySQL 8.0.13+, MariaDB 10.4+, and PostgreSQL 12+.
- Cleaner Code Base: Joomla 5 focuses heavily on code cleanliness. The removal of es5 support, as well as other carefully coded cleanups, ensuring that the CMS operates quickly.

How to upgrade your website to Joomla 5?
If you are using Joomla 4 version, Good news for Joomla 4.4.x to 5.x, it’s an upgrade, not a migration. Why?
- Joomla 4 (J4) extensions that have removed all deprecations of code and are using up-to date Joomla code, will work in Joomla 5 (J5)
- Most others will work with the new Behaviour - Backward Compatibility Plugin enabled
