What's new?
As we said earlier, this is an updated version which will replace Alpha-1 for testing purpose. Last month, Joomla! Group has released alpha-1 version for Joomla! 3.0. Both these versions are for developer testing templates and extensions.
- Allow Joomla! 3.0 advanced testing
- Custom extensions and templates, made for 3.0 from 2.5 ones, for example, our templates!
- Test only, not suitable for production sites, developers can download from direct link: Download here
How to upgrade to Joomla 3.0? And why not to?
- Migrate to Joomla! 2.5 first if yours is old Joomla!, version 1.5 for example.
- From Joomla! 2.5, make sure all your extensions have version that is compatible with Joomla! 3.0
- Now upgrade to Joomla 3.0 if Joomla reaches beta version!
Note: ONLY if you want to build a new site from scratch, you should use beta Joomla! 3.0 when available.
Otherwise, if you are operating the 2.5 version, please consider carefully about upgrading. You should NOT!
Why? Because after 3.0, there will be 3.5 - a long-term-version for long support, it is different from 3.0, a standard-term-version for shorter support. From 2.5, you will be able to upgrade directly to 3.5 instead of through 3.0, that's cool!
Plans
Joomla 3.0.0 is due to be released about 26 September 2012. The plan:
- mid-August - Prepare for beta release
- late-August - Joomla 3.0 beta 1 to be released for public testing
- 26 September - Joomla 3.0.0 will be released
- September 2013 - End of Joomla! 2.5
- One month after Joomla! 3.5, version 3.0 is out of support
So at least late August is the time to have some Joomla! 3.0 Websites in real.
In the meantime, you can browse our list of Joomla! extension here. As version 3.0 is released, our modules will be added soon with support for. Priority is maybe for these famous extensions:
